Vice President of Live Events, 4Wall

Robert A. Roth, Vice President of Live Events at 4Wall Entertainment and Founder of consulting firm Eccentric Design, continues to shape the future of live event production with the same inventive streak and relentless curiosity that launched his career nearly six decades ago. One of the industry's rare triple threats, Roth seamlessly bridges the worlds of business, design, and technology. An entrepreneur at heart and a seasoned creative leader, he possesses the uncommon ability to understand what works artistically, operationally, and commercially, allowing him to navigate complex productions from every angle. He oversees live production strategy and execution across corporate events and large-scale touring and broadcast productions, including major stadium tours and multi-artist concerts that demand precision logistics, technical fluency, and the ability to make the impossible look effortless.

Across his career, Roth has been a creative visionary for so many globally recognized artists, including Eagles, Billy Joel, Metallica, Justin Bieber, Eric Church, Bad Bunny, The Jacksons, Rick James, Kool & the Gang, and Ozzy Osbourne, as well as “The Trilogy Tour” featuring Enrique Iglesias, Pitbull, and Ricky Martin. With a relationship-first approach, he has built a reputation for imaginative thinking and adaptability in lighting and production design, sales, and many other facets of the business.

The instinct for figuring things out started early. Originally from the Upper Bronx, New York, Roth discovered lighting and live production while growing up in Athens, Georgia. At just 14 years old, he created his first live production— “The Aurora Lite Show,” a swirling, psychedelic projection performance presented at the University of Georgia’s University Union. From those humble beginnings, Roth transformed a childhood fascination into a career that would define concert lighting and live event production for generations.

A scrappy and driven teenager with entrepreneurial savvy, Roth purchased professional lighting equipment on a shoestring budget and began working with local Atlanta-area bands. Along the way, he found mentorship among industry veterans, including the original road manager for Lynyrd Skynyrd. Rather than follow a conventional college path, Roth said goodbye to Georgia Tech to pursue concert life full-time.

Following three years in the Atlanta bar band scene, capped by a residency in Hollywood, he founded R.A. Roth, Inc. in 1975, one of the few dedicated lighting companies in the concert business at that time. He delivered lighting equipment and design services to some of the era’s most influential artists, such as ARS, Willie Nelson, Kool & the Gang, and Rick James.

A defining milestone came in the early 1980s with Roth’s involvement in lighting design for The Jacksons’ “Victory Tour.” The scale and visibility of that production helped elevate his work onto the world stage and cement his status as a creative force in live entertainment. Around the same period, he expanded into production design, supporting Ozzy Osbourne’s tour(s) and many others. Roth went on to contribute to the tours of Madonna, Salt-N-Pepa, N.W.A, and Indigo Girls, proudly supporting groundbreaking artists across genres and cultural movements.

Never one to sit still, Roth expanded his influence into scenic design, logistics, and live-event support through business ventures, including Source Point Design in 1983 and Night Moves Transfer in 1985. Always looking ahead, he embraced emerging technologies before they became industry standard, incorporating early PC and CAD systems into his workflow.

Following the sale of his company, Roth joined Production Resource Group (PRG) in 1997 as Vice President, helping guide its growth into one of the world’s leading entertainment and event technology providers. While at PRG, he fostered touring relationships with artists such as Metallica, Eagles, Justin Timberlake, and Billy Joel. He later spent 15 years as a Sales Executive at Christie Lites, with projects for top entertainers including Eric Church, Bad Bunny, Karol G, and Justin Bieber. In 2024, he transitioned to his current role with 4Wall Entertainment.

Roth’s diverse career has extended to projects in television, film, trade shows, automotive exhibitions, festivals, and special events. For more than a decade, he worked with both Mikhail Baryshnikov’s ballet production and Tyler Perry’s “Madea” stage tours. His experience has also included major political events associated with U.S. presidential administrations, including Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, and Barack Obama. Among his most meaningful professional moments was contributing to the production environment surrounding President Obama’s 2008 presidential election night broadcast in Chicago’s Grant Park.

Further behind the scenes, Roth is a voracious reader, avid cook, exercise devotee, and lifelong music fan. He is a dedicated mentor, believing that every career breakthrough begins with someone willing to take a chance. His leadership and mentorship are grounded in a philosophy of consistency and showing up every time.

No matter the setting, Roth remains driven by the same mindset that started it all: stay curious, stay committed, and make it work.
