#89 - Craig Caserta, Lighting Director and Programmer

Craig grew up in Brooklyn, NY and literally fell into the business when a friend of a friend said someone needed a few hands to help out. Shortly after, he found himself learning under one of the forefathers of rock and roll lighting in this country, the great (and sadly, late) Bob See. Since that time, Craig has really made a name in TV, specifically "contest shows" such as American Idol and AGT, and more recently, the resurgence of game shows.

John is one of the nicest, hardest working guys I've met in the industry. He's fun, fair and firm all in the same guy! The company, like ALL in our industry, has been severely impacted by the COVID19 virus. Although they lost virtually 100% of their revenues, John and his team didn't accept the death warrant, instead looking for ways to keep their people, facilities and assets employed! From that, they've developed crisis related products and processes that have created work - and much needed re...

#81 - Phay "Phamous" McMahon, Production Manager and former LD

Phay began back in the 70s, with his first "break" coming from Bob Geldof and the Boomtown Rats. Shortly there after, he began working with a group of teenagers from Sheffield England called Def Leppard, who at the time had just recorded their first album. Both acts would go on to do HUGE things, and Phay's relationship continued for decades with both. Phay transitioned from LD to LD and Production Manager, then, in the '90s, he decided to focus just on being a great PM. Since that time, Phay ha...

#80 - Patrick Whalen / Backstage Productions

Patrick became intrigued by the lighting and production world early, while still in his teens. He took a slightly different approach though, writing a business plan for a lighting rental company he would call Backstage Productions. He didn't stop there, he shopped his business plan to some 30 odd banks before one finally bit, and gave him the money. So with his $100,000 (borrowed), Patrick ventured off to Chicago where he would buy his first "rig" from Pete's Lights. Since then, Patrick has work...

#77 - Roel Apers from KLSTR discusses his new technology for connecting, addressing, controlling and monitoring lighting networks

KLSTR is a brand new technology created by some very smart guys in Belgium who simply sought out a better way. KLSTR enables you to control MUCH larger lighting packages, easier, faster and with much greater feedback as well. For the heavy lifting on the Tech side of this, I brought a...

#74 - Duck Lights founder Lee Duck

A unique business model is always intriguing and this one caught our attention at the recent NAMM show in Anaheim. Lee was a touring musician and found himself wanting much more when it came to his bands production quality. Specifically, Lee envisioned better lighting... somehow. Although they could not afford to hire a lighting crew (or even just one guy) and a full rig, they could afford something better. Lee conceived a fully programmed, time coded show, and eventually he transitioned out of ...
